The African UNESCO Global Geoparks Network
The African UNESCO Global Geoparks Network (AUGGN) is the regional network that brings together UNESCO geoparks on the African continent. It was officially established in 2021, with M'Goun Geopark as a founding and pioneering member.
Africa has an exceptionally rich geological heritage: some of the oldest rocks on the planet, spectacular volcanic formations, fossils of world importance and unique geomorphological landscapes. The AUGGN network aims to promote this heritage while fostering sustainable development of local communities.
M'Goun Geopark plays a leading role in this network, with over 10 years of experience as a UNESCO geopark. It shares its best practices with emerging African geoparks and actively contributes to the development of the AUGGN network.
AUGGN network objectives
Promote the development of geoparks on the African continent
Facilitate exchanges of experiences between African geoparks
Support applications from new African geoparks for UNESCO designation
Promote the exceptional geological heritage of the African continent
